Royal Deeside Tour

Unveil the majesty of Royal Deeside, the land of ancient forest covered glens, castles and wilderness, which has become synonymous with Queen Victoria.
Nestled in the Cairngorm mountains
Your tour begins with morning coffee in the picturesque village of Ballater before heading to Braemar Castle, built in 1628 by the Earl of Mar. Enjoy the stunning location of Braemar, nestled in the middle of the Cairngorm mountains, then lunch at the superb Fife Arms hotel. The former hunting lodge of the Duke of Fife has recently reopened as a boutique hotel, described by Conde Nast's Traveler magazine as one of the hottest hotel openings of 2018.
Linn o' Dee - Mar Lodge Estate
The Royal Family's summer residence
The tour then continues into the afternoon with a visit to Crathie church, a centre of worship since the 6th century, but now more famous for welcoming the Royal Family for Sunday service during their summer residency in Balmoral. A five minute walk then takes you to what Queen Victoria described as her "dear paradise in the Highlands" - Balmoral Castle. Visit the ballroom, which hosts the Queen's Summer Balls, and enjoy the well-manicured gardens.

Whisky with a Royal Warrant
Next is a trip to the Royal Lochnagar Distillery. Founded in 1845 by John Begg, he invited his new neighbours - Queen Victoria and Prince Albert - to sample his new whisky. They were so impressed that a Royal Warrant was issued to the distillery. You'll be impressed with their whisky too! The tour ends with an evening meal back in Ballater, with delicious locally sourced produce and traditional entertainment.
